Canada is committed to keeping loved ones together and provides opportunities to be unified through the Spousal sponsorship. This class of sponsorship is divided into three categories including, spouse, common-law and conjugal partner sponsorship. Each category has specific eligibility requirements that the sponsor must meet.
If you are an eligible sponsor, this program allows Canadian Citizens and permanent residents, to sponsor their spouse/partner and dependents to migrate and live in Canada. A sponsor should be able to financially support their spouse/partner and dependents, and make sure they do not need social assistance from the government.
Sponsorship Application
This application supports family reunification. There are two ways to apply for the sponsorship. The first being an Overseas spousal sponsorship, which is processed where the spouse or partner resides outside Canada. The second being an In-land spousal sponsorship for a spouse or partner already living in Canada.
Once an application is submitted to the appropriate visa office, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) processes the applications. IRCC further evaluates the entirety of the application and examines the genuineness of the relationship throughout the process. There is no set processing time, as it varies from office to office.
Application Process
When completing the application, ensure all information that is provided is accurate and truthful. The timeline of your relationship and documentation must corroborate with the forms.
Once your application is submitted to IRCC, an officer will be responsible for reviewing it. A precisely completed application may help avoid incomplete applications or an interview with IRCC. The Canadian government has become stricter when reviewing applications due to the growing number of fraudulent applications being submitted.
In the event of a rejected application, an appeal may be filed, depending on the application. The appeal re-addresses the refusal decision and allows an opportunity to clarify any discrepancies with the application. If you are facing a rejection, quick action must be taken as there are strict deadlines for appeals.
